Ice and Snow, Alaska
This series was made in Seward, Alaska in Kenai Fjords National Park, along the Northwestern Peninsula, and the Harding Ice Field Trail. Northwestern Glacier is one of the last remaining glaciers in the peninsula that still reaches the water. The eight or nine other glaciers in the Northwestern Peninsula have receded significantly and ice and snow now mix with dirt and rock. The rescission above the water is obvious. The stillness and intense quiet in this wilderness is interrupted only by the glacier calving. As Alaska continues to experience record-breaking warm temperatures in the summer of 2019, images like these bear witness to a sublime landscape and complex ecological system that may be permanently destroyed by climate change.
